Yup, was TJ's idea. This way a teacher would be right there with them. They should even get an auto in game mail from the clan leader telling them their IM contact info and beganing turn useage. etc. Could even program that reports of used turns are sent to the leaders. Such as "player X used 200 turns scouting." I love it.

Sounds good! If it will come into turbo/reg, can the clan leader decide what to put in the message that is sent to the new members?
TJ, when you thought of this were you on thinking pills?

wolf bite

It would be its own game, with lots of turns. This way the teachers would not be trying to win or anything. They would basically be immortal land farms.

Nice, will this be out soon? But I guess it will take a while to code (I learnt something!)
I am still sure he was on thinking pills...

Anyways, what will it be called then?

lonewolf1817

it not only would be a god palce to go and train new ppl , but advanced palyers as well could fine tune and devlop strats and see how they work.
When you have done soemthing right, no one will know you have done anything at all

pippin the mighty

Yeah, if this ever went through, can people volenteer to lead clans?
And about the fine tuning the strats, thats good aswell, mine needs work, or either that I cant do it =|

heh, sorry i know you're not a kid, and found out just last night that lonewolf's older then me. It just sounded better saying he shut down children.

Anyway, i actually think you've got the solution right there. It would mean that anyone with a really high ratio couldn't really afford using the leader training bonus because of sacks. We'd have to have a minimum at like 40% though, since sacking should be at least a /little/ effective against indiers.

This is true, because otherwise we create an imbalance where indiers are actually good food storehouses as long as they keep relations good enough to avoid poisons. The possibilities of the fox race are multiplying before my eyes, if we could just get desertions worked into the equation ;)

Pippin if you need help with your strat send me a message in game, but please keep this thread on the subject of food.

QuoteShadow. I had not seen your latest post when I posted in my own defense.  The problem with teaching new people is that they tend to not want to wait around for the help and are not too sure about being assigned a big bro. TJ, I believe it was him, had a great idea.  We make a server and put the teachers as clan leaders, new people are assigned a clan. the Clan leader has the power to check the stats on their clan. and can be on IM as they watch the player playing. Valhall already has this programed.

I will volunteer to lead that clan for a while at any rate. I can teach the basics of leadering and indying pretty easily, although I think we should tag team between oldbies leading it so that the new players get a taste of the different play styles.

Priorities aside, do you see any flaws in the idea I had?

in the sacking idea? no. I'd love to try it out next round on turbo and see how it goes.

recently on turbo jiji sacked me a ton, and it actually hurt. The only reason this doesn't happen more often is that indiers A) know that i can murder them back as retal if i want and B) sacking means they get much less land, and thus isn't worth it. The sacking did however hurt me quite a bit, and forced me to change come of my training settings to Police.

So if sack were stronger, and worth it... I think it would make most leader players who have good ratio's to switch to police.

Shadow

I kind of meant the idea to be a balance in lieu of training settings rather than simply forcing a different setup. 100% police decreses sack gains by close to a factor of 10 (500m-50m) so even with double powered sack, 100% police would make it pretty inneficient.

right, which means you'd be crazy not to have 100% police, and 0% leaders, if you had a good ratio... thats what we want.

but gains for an indier would still be very low, and sack still wouldnt compare to murder. At 100% police, sack should be able to take about 1% of the opponent's food as a base value (100 ratio) so that it is comparable to shielded murders. Even more perhaps, since indy can't open attack op. But that's a whole other debate.

So I take it no one sees any merit in the original point of this thread?

Which was to do what? If the sack change is added to reg, food stockpiling will be just as susceptible to takedowns as any other strat. More so even, since you won't have to sacrafice anything doing it.

Although I wish there was a way to do it without making this game even less defense oriented...

Well, if you think that will fix the issue with food storing, then I suppose that works.

Nah, the balance i want to bring isn't one where no strategy can succeed. Food storing is too EASY a strat, and is the only way to win. The balance i want is so that people can still win by storing up food... but it won't be easy, and it won't be the only way.

Thats why the new market is essential to the balance of the game. And i'm planning more market changes in the future, once i have a good look at everything.
