Ally, shut up. LOL. I've had quite a few music convos with you, and I've come to the conclusion that you wouldn't know good music if it hit you over the head with a bass guitar. That's just my opinion though, I could be wrong. XD.

progressive rock is a form of music that isn't too widely popular because their songs stay away from the patterns that make up hit songs, like the standard verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. in Prog rock it would be more like complex 2 minute instrumental part, singing section 1, singing section 2, bridge including huge instrumental part including multiple sections, not just a guitar solo, singing section 3. I don't know it's crazy

they basically break the rules that 99% of rock bands follow, which makes them less popular to those who listen to the radio for the crappy hit songs,  a lot of prog bands also have a lot of songs that do follow the standard pop song pattern, but you don't see it too often with bands like Yes, or Pink Floyd. 70's Rush is also an example of a progressive rock band but once they hit the 80's they started to go more mainstream.

also, Prog rock includes a lot of jazz influence in that they may not go back to the same parts that they'd done before, once they've played a part that's it, theres no going back to it the song must move on, or progress, hence the name

cause I mean think about a standard rock song, you already heard the chorus, why must we hear it again and again? think of something new to play.

I think they're more hard rock/metal, but they've got some prog in em too, a lot of metal bands like to step away from that standard song pattern too.

I know what you mean but the difference between me and you is that i like almost ALL of the same music that you do but i like many other kinds of music too, though its mostly all rock and almost zero rap and no pop....

I love the 70's and 80's!

Seriously i have grown up listening to AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Sabbath, Floyd, Van Halen, Def Lepoard, Quiet Riot, Great White, KISS, Poison.....etc. The list goes on, to this day i still love all of them bands and listen to their music abidly(however you spell that...) But i also like other music, much of which like you say is Manufactured music, i will admit i like hinder, and saliva, and other popular bands but i cant deny where my love for rock all started......The 70's and 80's!
