I would never bash anyone's music. I'm a musician??and, like you said, to each his own.
I'm always interested in new music. As far as Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc... they will Never get old to me.
I love it all. Except I can't seem to get a handle on Country Music. But, I respect it.

One of my new favorites is Chevelle. They keep impressing me with every new single they release. Just keeps getting better.

This is what he'll look like in a few decades. lol

Actually, no. More like this:

XDD That's him with a bunch of make up on for some video. Gross.

Anyway, it's Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran. How could no one guess Duran Duran?

I don't like Metallica. Almost all the music I love is from the seventies and eighties (especially late seventies/early eighties, except in the case of Elton John where I prefer the early seventies) sprinkled with a FEW recent things and stuff from the sixties. The nineties never happened.

As far as the eighties go, I love pop hits and one-hit wonders, as well as rock and select B-sides...and for the seventies, I mostly like a lot of music by a few bands. Not the stuff everyone knows. Not a big Zeppelin person.

Gen. Volkov

Because we were thinking of GOOD bands. *Snicker* I will bash other ppl's music, but then I feel bad about it. So I've been trying to cut down.

Menatus, if you like Duran Duran, I would guess that you don't like hard rock/metal, like Zeppelin, Metallica and the rest. To each his own.

Ereptor, their cover of whiskey in a jar is fricking awesome, my personal favorite is actually a 3-way split between "One" from "...And Justice for all", Fade to Black from Ride the Lightining, and Sanitarium from Master of Puppets, but I basically like everything they have ever done up until St. Anger, which, frankly, sucked. It was way too far from their roots, and I didn't like it at all. As too ozzy being in league in with Satan, maybe, but the music just rocks. Black Sabbath is the best metal band of all time, or maybe tied with AC/DC... I dunno, but they ROCK. And sorry for bashing your music. There are just some bands I really don't like, and Pink Floyd is one of them. But again, as you said, to each his own.

Disdain, you play bass? SWEET. I've always wanted to learn how. And if I ever get the money, I AM going to a Metallica concert. They are an awesome stage band. Cliff rocked, its so sad he got killed in the bus accident. Bon Jovi is a woman... *Cracks up*
Same here with the bands you mentioned, except Floyd of course, but as too Chevelle, eh, I can live without em. I like the older bands more. They just seem to have more talent.

Quite wrong, Volkov, I have broad musical horizons. Just because I like Duran Duran doesn't mean I can't like something else, anything else. I don't like Metallica of Zeppelin, but I love sixties rock and even more so, seventies rock. I will listen to anything I like, which can be a pop hit, a rock hit, a classical song, whatever. I just don't confine my music to one genre.

Besides, I considered Duran Duran a bad band until I actually gave the one record of theirs I had a listen. Everyone basically knows the song "Hungry Like the Wolf," and thats about it. I really don't think you can make an opinion based off only a few songs by a band. I can't say I hate the Backstreet Boys because I only know two songs by them.

I was going through my records one day, and found one that I thought was hilarious because all four of the band members were terribly hideous and all had very unique mullets. I thought it would be terrible. So I put it in for a joke and discovered I really loved their music and now it's one of my favorite albums. XD Then I went to school and took a poll, asking everyone which member of the band they thought was the ugliest. Ended up being a tie between two of them. Somehow I got like, 60 people to vote. XDDD

It's actually quite funny, half of the music I love I thought was lame at some point. Especially Elton. Most people hate him because he's gay and sang "Can you feel the love tonight". I don't even like his nineties stuff...afterall, it is from the nineties.

But as far as it goes, I don't really like metal. At least I've never heard a Metallica song I could stand...and the violin is my favorite instrument, so you think there'd be something good one that orchestrated album.

Gen. Volkov

Then what exactly in my statement is wrong? I said you don't like hard rock or metal and Zeppelin and Metallica kinda define that genre of music. There are other bands that could be said to define it, I just picked thouse two cause they are two my most favorite. Sixties and Seventies rock is not hard rock or metal. Seventies band started to be, like Sabbath and Zeppelin, but not 60's for the most part. There are exceptions, of course, there always are, but on the whole, the hard rock/ metal bands didn't start up until the late 70's and into the 80's. And I was joking about Duran Duran, they are ok, I just don't happen to like softer music, for the most part. Besides, Duran Duran is on 101.5, which is an upbeat variety of the 80's nineties and today, in other words, easy listening. Uggg.

Didn't I say my favorite era was late seventies early eighties? You know, that extends to more than Toto and Duran Duran...:D

The band that got me into music was Kansas. When I was eight. I saw them live.

Didn't Metallica start in the late eighties anyway? Not a big fan of the late eighties...there is some good stuff, but most of it's in the early eighties. Besides, Duran Duran broke up in 1985 ;)

By sixties rock, I mostly mean the Beatles. They're overrated, but still good. And didn't they make one of the first ever hard rock songs, "Helter Skelter"?

Besides, I like Stairway to Heaven every once in a while. Just...Robert Plant has manboobs and they frighten me. Plus, that terrible song he did at Freddie's tribute concert! Axl and Elton did a duet of Bohemian Rhapsody, that was awesome. Axl went WAY out of his way to prove he wasn't AT ALL homophobic.

I love his pleather skirt.

Gen. Volkov

Metallica started in the early eighties. Have you ever even HEARD Metallica?

You said sixties and seventies. And yes it does extend to more than Duran Duran, but you said you didn't like Zeppelin, so what about Guns n' Roses? Any hard rock band?

No, never. That's why I don't like them. Because I think I won't when I hear them.

QuoteYou said sixties and seventies. And yes it does extend to more than Duran Duran, but you said you didn't like Zeppelin, so what about Guns n' Roses? Any hard rock band?

No, I posted about Axl Rose because I hate him and everything he stands for.

Well, I wasn't particularly fond of the whitie tighties he wore during "We Will Rock You".

And yes, I do like GN'R, but their Live and Let Die cover was pretty bad. They never could quite live up to Appetite.

Nohcnonk

You should try some Metallica songs...

Menatus

I was kidding, Nohc. I know plenty of Metallica songs. If I really never heard them, I would be the biggest hypocrite ever.

Gen. Volkov

Alright. You like some hard rock. It just didn't seem like it from the bands you were mentioning, and I aplogize for the comment about Metallica.

No problem.  :-D It's all good and fun discussion. I love to talk music.

The guy in my sig is Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears.

I guess I do have an unnatural affinity for eighties pop. And ugly/big-nosed British musicians.

LOL, can't disagree with you there. I like music.. sometimes like to talk about it.

You know what my favorite "musci video" is?

Magical Trevor. LOL. And second is Magical Trevor Three. LOL. Ok just kidding, but I really do like those two flash cartoons. And Kenya. And Badger badger, and its ripoff, footy footy.

My actual favorite music video? Don't really have one. But most of the Metallica ones are pretty cool, as are most of the Gorillaz ones.
