What good is a protectorate?

i was just wondering what really is a protectorate and what good does it do?

to my knowledge,
a protectorate cannot attack
when attacked, the protectorate borrows a certain % of your troops for defence
you get a certain % of all food and cash the protectorate gets from foraging/looting (but not, I think, from leader missions)

I had forgotten about them really, an interresting, but not too useful feature..

windy is right, and also about no benifit from leaders. If anyone wants to be one, be warned that most of your army will go "poof." So be sure to sell them all first.
