I'm using a mix between Open Office and MS Office now..  Open Office is made by SUN (mostly unix servers and workstations) and tis free ^_^  + mostly compatible with word docs..  99% anyhow..

 notepad is only nice for removing formatting..
like tables and such..  just throw it into notepad and all nasty formatting goes away..  which can be bad if you actually /wanted/ the formatting ;)

I, personally, never have to type anything, really... all my assignments are sent in email messages, so word processing is basically useless.

 MS Works Word Processor is FAR the superior of Word. Word is slow, inconvenient, and less simplistic.
