Blood Wake

everybody is gone, there are only like 20 people playing each game, the first round had like 500 people, now we have 20, what happened?

truthfully I think its great it has lasted this long
think about it..
Kids (or rather, their parents) go out and buy these 60 dollar X-Box and Playstation games which are lucky to keep their attention for a month before being placed on a shelf with thoes bought before.  Multiplayer games usually last longer because many are very competitive and constantly changing

unfortunatly, this game has been up for quite a while and most have found the strat that suits them best then get into a rut and never change, thus it becomes boring and they leave, and the amount leaving > then the amount filtering in..  plus, some of the other players arnt nice to each other and people end up quitting out of frustration...

 Yeah, RWL's dying.

Yes, true, but more people would play if they could amke good friends at RWL therfore staying so they can chat with friends. Plus which, some people prefer to actually play, rather than just be deaded by people who don't like them.

Whooooooooooooah! Too much of that made sense! My brain hurts...

Aqualis has done a lot for rwl.  More than few people realize.  Just wanted to say that i appriciate people like that and congrads to those who are in it for rwl and not for their own gain.

I seriously think that we need to add a server with the old RWL code that we used when it was most popular.

Bladetail the Ferret

No offense to any of you just thought I mentchen it, but the turbo server is boring the first time I played it was so fun I could stay on for hours. But now we are just disinagrating.

Sharptail, if your going to say that, you should at least tell us why you think its like this, or what exactly you don't like about it. otherwise you are being DEstructive, not CONstructive :)

But that code was all buggy and isn't much different from the current code cept for some races and stuff. I think a better idea would be to embark on a massive expansion of features available to the players. Not that FaF is all that big either even with its impressive feature list, but a massive advertising campaign compbined with multitudes of new features, the restoration of the races to their former selves except for wildcat would definitely attract more players. Eliminating Marten giving industrial players more advantages might also help. But I don't think we will ever get back what we lost when the first two era's ended. Namely the attitude of this place and the massive playerbase. (Though I don't think we ever had more than 100 actually active players), unfortunately text based games are giving way to flash and other MMOG's with better graphics and more of a focus on the individual. Such as Runescape. (Which I play off an on BTW) Just like the old html chats have given way to Java Chats. As the Metallica song goes, its sad but true.

You touched on something important there volkov. But i think you forgot to add, that Metallica gave way for REAL music.

Actually, i'm being serious. Advertising is really important, but i think we often look at advertising in the wrong way. We think that to get more players, we should find other websites to tell about the game, we should get other Redwall readers interested by going to their fan sites/forums. I think thats a really good way to get more people, however HOW many people here are actually here SIMPLY because this is based on the Redwall books? is that honestly whats keeping you here? no, its your love of the game, and its community.

I think there are more people here who started playing the game when they heard about it from a friend, then when they heard about it on Redwall fan sites. I also think the Redwall fan sites have been tapped to their limit, and although we should still keep advertising, i think we should focus on advertising in REAL life too.

There are lots of ways i think we could do that. obviously, tell all our friends about it. but we could also actually have print-out flyers available. We could also be writing our local papers, telling them about the game (i know that seems a lil extreem, but it would honestly work, think about how wide spread we are, and how many people read the papers). If we start bringing in lots of new players, that will bring the old ones back, and the community would flourish.

i was daydreaming today while i sat around doing nothing at work, about how amazing rwl would be if it had a HUGE playerbase. the competition would be SO much greater. When i played Ultimate Empires (which is another text based game, that isn't promisance) it was really good if you could get your account into the top 200. and those who could get one of their accounts into the top 10 were seen as amazingly good (if found out later its 'cause they cheated... then had an awesome time doing so myself, but thats another story). That would be so good for RWL, we could do it too!

Gen. Volkov

*Snickers* What cheat? LOL. Oh and as for giving way to real music.. sure, real cruddy music. *Grin*

I agree, except I've already tried a little of my own advertising... and no one plays text based games anymore. Like I got a friend of mine in college playing for a bit. He was my initial impetus for coming back in fact. Other reasons also factored in. But those are none of your business. Anyway, he quit within a couple weeks. Most everyone else I've told about it has said, its TEXT BASED? No way! HEY! I just got a BRILLIANT idea! Lets make another totally new version of RWL. Base it off Runescape or something. It would be difficult to program, but a more interactive version would draw players. You would still have text, but the main controls would be you, as the leader of a vermin horde, talking to your deputies and whatnot, and you could have scenes of you leading them into battle. You'd still use turns, the basic prom code wouldn't change, but you could have more interaction added in, in the form of interactive and none interactive flash programs. (Have I suggested this before? I have the weirdest sense of Deja vu.)

The game is fine as a text-based game. and if people don't want to play a text-based game, then RWL isn't for them, we shouldn't change so we can suit everyone.

video games and MMORPG's were around when RWL started too you know... RWL is here for text-based gamers, those who won't play a text-based game will have to live without RWL... and they will be missing out.

Gen. Volkov

Yeah, but they weren't as good, popular, or as many as there are now. But OK. RWL can stay the same. Text based games are dying out though. When RWL started html chats were still dominating, now Java chats are. Well those and message boards. I just think RWL might want to change with the times a bit.
