Potential RedCon 06 activities

 Yes, maybe Redwall Dancing, but the way you seem to be going on about it, it looks like it is going to be very much like regular club dancing. Proper "Redwall Dancing" would be something along the lines of Folk Dancing Medieval Folk Dancing.

 Why does it have to be a contest? A lot of this was started more along the idea of getting the ROC together as friends, too, so couldn't we just have one evening or something where we have a convention dance, just to have fun as friends? That way it's more friendly, and more people will want to join in, because I somehow doubt that all of us know how to do the more folk/medieval styles of dance. (I know how, but that's beside the point.)

Kami can put whatever music he wants into this convention dance, I don't care anymore. But I would still like some Redwall themed music, for during the convention's normal hours..

 Yes, background music.

While certain events are on, like demostrations or whatever, a certain type of music will be played to suit it. Other types of themed music will be played in the background to get people in the mood for the Con as the walk around looking at the different booths and stalls. Same goes for when the special guests talk, etc.

I assume that the list provided in the first post of this topic contains all of the activities in which you would all like to see at RedCon06??  Because time is passing and moving on, as you can see the time for which the staff meeting is coming up in July.  So, if there are anymore ideas that any would like to share, please post them, so I can get this information ready for the meeting.

I'd just like to remind you all that this is a Convention, and a Redwall Convention at that. The majority of the activities will be Redwall-based. I'm not ruling out sports events, but I'd prefer to see things with a Redwall edge. For example Fencing will be one of the events (hopefully).
There will be other weapon-based events, and lots of demostrations by trained experts in other fighting arts. Aswell as a possible event based on re-enacting scenes from the books, and live-RPGs. Something that would probably go down well would be a Cooking Contest (Redwall receipes), but it may be hard to get permission to use the facilities. We'll see.

If you can somehow Redwall-ize those sports, there will be a place for them.

And, yes LAN games are something I'd like there too.

I'll comment on the Dance Contest at a later date.

The problem I see w/ all the weapon-based activities is that many ppl won't really be able to compete in those activites...well, not well, at least. I like Redwall-themed activities, but I thought the understanding was that this convention was to be a chance to meet ppl IRL. If we also include un-Redwall sports like basketball and such, it would be easier to include more ppl in things they'll really be able to enjoy...I'm not saying that trying fencing wouldn't be enjoyable, but I find that many people like to be able to compete in something they're more familiar with...

And w/ that in mind, I'd like to suggest tennis for the list.

 Conventions have many functions, one of which is meeting people, another of which is seeing demostrations. And if feel want to take part then that option will be open to them (of course the activities will be overseen by specialists).

In that quote I said that I wasn't ruling out sports events. And that still goes. But now I saying: Only sports events that can be adapted to suit a Redwall theme will be considered. If you can think of a way to adapt Tennis to the Redwall-verse, I'll consider it.

 Lets see... you draw a rat face on the tennis ball, and call the new game Whack a Rat.

Perhaps a singing contest?  You take songs from the book, add your own melody (or the melody used in the audio tapes) and some folk choose the best ones.
Or perhaps just singing Redwall songs, one person teaching the melody and the lyrics, the rest of us shouting our heads off.

And roast boar.  That is medievalish.
... although it is a bit freaky.  And probably a bit hard to find.

I think we should all bring a few beanbags to sit in, for when we want to talk.  Why?  Because sitting in a bean bag is far more fun than a chair or the floor.

Howabout running through the streets shouting war cries?  I have always thought that would be fun.
