I'm surprised I won. Hi everyone o/! I'm new here. I didn't want to introduce myself until I was sure I wanted to keep playing, but I had a lot of fun this last round so I'll definitely stick around. I don't really know what I'm doing, I just think ferrets are real cute so I wanted to be a ferret. Then I saw they have the highest foraging bonus, so I just built like 80-90% foragers and then a handful of markets and huts kind of randomly when I thought I needed it. I just attacked, built, and then spent all my turns foraging, then sold food to mercenaries to buy troops and raised defenses to end my run. Probably not the proper way to do things, but it kind of worked out ok for me.

I had a good time though, I think I'll try a different race and strategy this month. I've been reading a lot of old forum posts on strategies and there's so much I want to try now. Was there any bad etiquette I had? Like is it rude to attack someone more than a few times, or something like that?

I suggest joining the Redwall discord chat. Many veterans of the game are there to supply you with endless answers. In general attacking for land is not bad but the common way to play and grow. Using all attacks is typical but some players may get nad for being hit incredibly low. However using missions like steal or poison will incur wrath. Standard Attack as well.

With the foragers bonus you are better off not making any markets/huts and instead mercing food as needed.  For a typical high finish you either want to hold that food (52.5 food =$1 net) or merc food, build 40% camps and 60% hut for leaders and buy up your mercs at a discount 1 day before the round finishes every month.

Ok thanks! I was definitely tempted to do some stealing, but I suspected that the retaliation would probably be worse. I'm glad I held off lol.

Oh yea, I definitely had it easy. I'm pretty sure there was pretty much nobody else playing. The hounds of ulster didn't seem to be doing regular runs until pretty late and Krowdon went on vacation. But I was definitely expecting some attacks on my food at the end, or one of those foxes to pop up with a ton of networth or something.
