Game isn't super intensive either, given its looow graphic quality.  Its written in Java though, so it is a little heavy.

There actually is a kind of endgame to the singleplayer, iirc you have to locate an underground base (randomly placed each time you make a new map) which contains a portal to The End where you get to fight a dragon.  There's various things you need to do to get to that point, since you literally start with nothing.

Mostly, its fun to just wander around and explore.
's the only reason I fart around on the multiplayer servers myself.  I'll find some location to build a farm, autofarm if I'm feeling ambitious, so I always have food.  Then just wander.  On some of the larger servers that have been around a while there's some really cool stuff.
Basically, computer legos with online multiplayer and random monsters.
