Let's see...
1. physically impossible faces
2. cat/fox/animal ears and/or tails
3. mouths go up and down and make different sounds(try doing an anime talk IRL)
4. Americans always look silly/weird/japanese
5. crazy impossible bright colored hair.

Thats just how they are. Some have good plots, and some are just meant to be fun.

Um, a few shows break the fourth wall in a line or two. I believe The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya does this at least once, not sure where.

If you havent seen The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, I highly recommend it. Its one of the funniest shows/books I have ever read. Its still one of my favorites.

I am a fan of the big 3, Naruto, Bleach(which I started Monday), and One Piece.

I also like Fairy Tail and have watched most of the earlier digimon seasons
