Market use goes in cycles. People flood the market, then some opportunist goes casher and buys a huge chunk of it. By watching the size of the market carefully, you can tell a lot about the state of the game. For example, the market just got cut in half, which means that a lot of people now have overflowing bank accounts. Going all leaders and robbing them blind is going to be extremely profitable for the next day or two. If you've been watching carefully you can even tell who has all the cash.

Actually the market has only shrunk by 18% in value, but you'll notice that the total troops have shrunk considerably.

always put as much cash in your bank as possible and pay off any loans before you log out - this will minimize the amount that people can steal from you.

When running, always keep your bank account around 80% full, so that you gain as much interest as possible - if it is full, you won't get interest. In the course of a run, you will get 27 million dollars per billion in the bank, which doesn't sound like much, but it adds up quickly.

what exactly do towers do?

200 DP each, and mix defense between troop types so that if, for example, someone attacks you with rats, then your stoats, weasels and skiffs will also help out with the defense to varying extents.

Basically they can roughly double your troop defenses if you have a balanced army.

more powerful than i assumed, what percentage of land should i be looking at for towers at the end of a run if i want to be very defensive, considering im a lizard with extra defense?

I would go around 40-50%. More than that has diminishing returns.

You can see your defenses tallied up in army status - that column includes contributions from towers now.
