I might change the orange to the blue. It didn't make sense as orange anyway because in this design orange is the "action colour"

Kilkenne

To address the first point: I am often very hungover so everything is too bright. Secondly, I don't really use social media and I have p much everything on my PC skinned dark so I can be the best basement dweller around.

But again this is just me. As far as a game skin goes, I use the Redwall theme and the one that looks like Redwall theme but is a different color for reg/turbo respectively, and Hidden Fox for dev servers. I'm not sure if that would change with another version. I'd kind of like a skin that matches '09 for the game to be honest :3

Should make a bright red/yellow/black communist themed game skin for 3.0. It is the worker's expansion.

Peace Alliance

Hidden fox skin is basicallybased off oftge 09, 10 themes.

Personally I really love the 2010 theme, been using it for ages. It's also a little better for touch screen devices (that and I find it more readable than hidden fox 09)

09 used to be pretty decent until the images got somehow messed up (not sure how that happens) I kind of agree with PA in that it now looks ugly :/

The RWL3 theme is OK, it's always difficult to judge a half baked theme and it obviously borrows a lot from the 2010 theme.

I can't help but feel that the orange seems out of place, think it's a mixture of the top being unfinished, a few parts being unpolished and the background colour not quite fitting in right.

The padding for RWL3 also seems a little too much for my liking (although I'm sure this is intentional for touch based devices / the look and feel, sometimes heavy padding can look quite good)

I appreciate what you tried doing with the white BG, black text on white BG is definitely the most readable combination in my experience.

Also for fact hunters out there, darker themes are worse for the environment, FACT!

Peace Alliance

Yes, I was keeping touch screens in mind, am currently using it on my tablet anc love it compared  to the other ones.

In general i didn't add much padding (just for clickables) i just removed cludder. Smf forums are full of completely pointless info, icons, etc. i always wished forums would make the focus on contect being posted. Have you ever gone to a forum for the first time and been distracted by the weird sigs and querks? Thats not so say that we shouldn't have sigs, they just shouldn't be so distracting.

Not sure of the technicalities behind it, but it's something I remember reading elsewhere too; iirc correctly I think black is better for CRT monitors though (although I doubt anyone visiting RWL still uses one)

Atm is looks like sigs are disabled, although I'm sure that's not intentional :)

There are a few niggles I have (mostly that quotes look dreadful) although I won't bother you with them, I appreciate very much this is a work in progress and it's starting to grow on me a little :)

Just one quick thing, is there any reason why posts don't stretch to 100% the width of their container? Just a little annoying XD

Peace Alliance

Because 600px is the max width you want for readability.

I had sigs hidden temporarily.

Holby

I use SMF default.

Not a big fan of the orange in RWL3, but good luck tinkering!
I will not deleted this

If you guys give me your opinions as I progress on this design then I'm sure we'll come up with a style people can agree with. I've now changed the design for a dark background of #333, but I will still be putting the text on a light BG.

Shadow

I like the layout and buttons and such, but not the color scheme. Background is good, but the names on forums don't stand out from it enough - perhaps a lighter shade of that color. Orange still looks just plain bad, orange should probably not be there at all, anywhere.

Forums with new posts are lit up more then forums w/o new posts.

That should be the role of the page thing on the left.

Also, I liked having the extra box showing the latest post in each forum, it seems like a lot of the screen is wasted atm.

Forums are still too dark by default, even if they are lit up more when new posts are there.

Orange is bad (did I mention I hate the orange?) Especially the orange background on post boxes. But especially the orange buttons.

for those who can see it, this is a problem with the new layout.

That post is unique. I can make individual posts wider if we need special ones. I'll think of a way to make that happen automatically. It's just way way way better for readability having the width at 600px. I swear I can almost read Volkov's posts when the format is right.

You should tell me how you feel about the orange.
