i could go college now, though thinking about it, it wont be the end of this year it will be closer to a year from now.

in my school the final year of compulsory school ends earlier than most other (dunno why)

I'm currently just starting the 3rd year of a 3-year university course, which is the normal course length over here. I'm planning to do a 2-year masters in production design but it's going to be 9000 pounds a year - no idea how I'm going to manage that with no student loan :P
How do you Americans manage your crazy college prices? Just wondering if anyone has any tips.

Scholarships are the best way to go. Florida has the Bright Futures scholarship, but even if you qualify for 100%, it doesn't actually cover 100% tuition. If you do some research online, you can find scholarships for almost anything, some of them you just have to fill out a form and submit a resume. Applying to all those scholarships was a pain, but it was worth it, I don't owe any money to student loans.

It's difficult because I want to know if I qualify for the scholarships before applying - the college offers its own scholarships but there's no info about them.  I'll have a look at filling out some forms. A quick google implies that there's going to be a lot of forms.

Rules of thumb with scholarships:

1) Often, nobody applies for particular small ones, so even if you don't completely qualify for it, it's worth applying. You can easily win by default, and $500 increments add up fast.
2) You will get on average a 10% return on applications, so fill out lots of them.
3) Big scholarships love people who a) volunteer, b) are involved with the community, c) have overcome person hardship, and d) have schedules that require 25 hours a day. So exaggerate heavily. I have great grades, but none of the above, so I miss out on a lot of money.
4) Besides entrance scholarships, there are very few scholarships for grades alone.
