Funny to kill off newbies, not even remotely - as most of the time they wont come back

I don't know about you, but I like playing on a server with, you know, people on it.

The concept of a vacant server because some twit went around killing off all the new players is funny?

I prefer the concept of perma-banning anyone who kills a single newbie.
If you enjoy newbie killing go kill some other promi, our numbers are low enough as is.

Ryu may have driven off 5 people, FIVE, out of a game that has barely 30 active players
What in the actual duck is funny about that

no, i've said the concept of random kills is remotely funny as it is unexpected, not considering who has been killed.

no, i dont agree with killing noobs but i dont wanna argue with you so i dont see a good enough reason to after this.

I know that most people consider killing newer players is bad (and I've never done it myself)

BUT, I'm going to say something controversial and suggest that some newer players might actually enjoy being killed (hear me out)

When most people join the game they expect to try and kill other people off, be a villainous scumbag, and damage other people (it is called redwall warlords after all)

When most newer players hear or 'strategy' or 'troop holes' or 'leader missions' they go inactive pretty quickly (at least in my experience) so maybe when they're killed they may actually get a sense of exhilaration, and be motivated to sign back up for revenge.

Just my two cents, not sure if that's how newer players actually see it, I guess it's difficult to gauge :-\

The ones Ryu killed haven't come back
Gerwulf respawned, but then idled out. Almost 10 days, I think we've lost him.

Who knows if they would have stuck around otherwise, but because Ryu thought he was being hilarious we may have lost 5 players. That's 16.6% of the total players, not a trivial number.

There is no justifying newbie killing
I thought it was pretty well pounded into yall's heads last time this came up that this was a bad idea

The problem is that killing is a part of promi, and a reasonable part given its done with cause.
Random killings are not fun, nor are they funny. They're annoying
Its like building a sandcastle at the beach, you're just messing around having fun then some bully comes by and stomps on it. Some people rebuild, others say screw it and go do something else. The problem with RWL is that there are a lot of something elses out there - and if people aren't having fun they'll just wander off.

There's not an easy, fair way to go about punishing people other than arbitrarily saying "you're being a prick, permaban" -- which I've been tempted to do, but its not the way we run things.
I'd rather make the assumption that the people here are decent and would rather welcome newbies than smash them into the ground.
Ryu and those defending random kills are making this hard.

In the past (at least in my experience), newb killings from vets are rare and have pretty much all been fake. (eg. Shade ages ago and us a few rounds back)

I agree permbans are extreme, but if somebody is not contributing to the community and is detrimental, they need some way to encourage them to change their behavior. I don't think a ban would really achieve this, but being disabled for a few days, with the threat of being disabled for the rest of the round if they continue this behavior, would definitely give people a reason not to do this.
