to be honest i think ferret needs more of an advantage, their 25% foraging bonus compared to a lizards 20% bonus and big defense and good troop production is a clear winner.

I think lizard needs a bit of a foraging nerf, actually, along with a bigger spell boost in the ferret's race spell. But we'll see how things shape up.

Also, should we revive mentors? People who openly place their names on the game guide who act as teachers for the newbies, which would make it easier access for mentors to be given out.

Or did it kind of die because there just aren't enough people with the time and willingness to actually mentor (in which case bringing it back would be a bad idea)?

I don't think it ever really took off. People just didn't have time to devote to it. Which is why teaching clans are better, since there is usually someone around who can help instead of relying on one person.

I'm always happy to answer specific questions, but teaching people from scratch? Eh.

Makes sense, individual tuition is always better than group teaching, but it's just a bit too time consuming  :-\

and yeah i dont think ferret is a competitor for now until some sort of boost is implemented.

I don't know. I think if you're committed, you can figure it out, asking questions as needed. That's how I did it. Pippin taught me a lot, as did Sevz, Ryu, Krowdon, Uiblis, I think there were others...

Somewhat true. If you don't want to waste turns trying to figure basics out, it's best that you learn from a person or group.

Just specifics, things you wouldn't know unless you got the code, usually necessitate asking questions.

Eventually you combine the two and make yourself a unique strategy  :)
