I know there is already a topic like this but I cant double post but we really really need a new training clan, new guys come they spend some turns and then they leave because they have no idea how to play the game, I made W.A.R and I sent a message to all the new guys and within 2 weeks I had 15 members about 10 of them had just started.
I tried to teach them but I haven't been around long enough to teach properly.
We need some of the more experienced guys that have been around for a while to start this up and send messages to the new guys when they start and that way more of them will stay.
Comments? Thoughts?
And any one thinks they can do this?

Edit: Come on guys, no one got anything to say?

Rakefur

Kilk, you should get on and train new players.

It's possible. I could also just write a thing and make you all post it in the newbie clan forum. I've been meaning to actually re-write the entire guide one of these days anyhow.

Shadow Assassin

I already run a clan but my brother could run the training side of things.

Kilk, that sounds like a good idea.

Your brother appears to build markets and believes that 90% barracks while indying is a good idea in principle. He might want to play a bit longer to get things conceptually sound first.

Rakefur

I could do it for a couple of weeks, then pass them on to someone else...?

Again, overall, I'd advise the new players against training them until you have everything super conceptually sound. I understand that a lot of you can play competently, but it's completely different portraying it to new players, and explaining why things are the way they are. It's the downfall of a lot of people that teach promisance and RWL in general. Sevah is good at teaching those concepts but gets caught up and forgets fundamentals. Basically right now the game guide needs to be overhauled and that's where I'm going to focus my efforts among other things. A lot of times they don't even look for a clan, but read the guide, which is pretty outdated, and most of the information is wrong at this point (telling anyone to build markets unless you're running some super advanced strategy on mega low land and still I wouldn't do it).

It's not that I don't think you could handle it, it's that I think that you should spend your time thinking about various other strategies and hammering everything down before you go off to teach people. Even I am woefully incompetent in some areas of the game, apparently, as Holby is quick to point out literally every time I do anything ever. (I just happen to be pretty okay at the maths and know what's goin on)

I agree with you. Also, think about putting the training clan in turbo as well, some people start there.

turbos usualy themed which can be difficult, but it could be a good idea to teach someone on turbo to get them used to things quicker.

QuoteYou are a warlord! Every so often, you will get turns. Depending on the speed of the game you have signed up for the turns will come at different speeds. Everyone gets the same amount of turns. You use the turns to expand your empire, and manage your army. If you need more turns, just check in later and there will be more.

It is highly recommended that new players wait until they have full turns before using them. Through diplomacy and strategy, your goal is to use your turns to generate networth, which determines overall power.

If you are new to the game, the easiest race to get feel for playing with is the rat. Each race has a strategy at which it excels, and the one for rat is generally agreed to be the simplest to learn. Check out the rest of the guide for more information.

Finally, join the forums! The Redwall community is easily as much fun to take part in as the game, and people are always willing to help new players learn the ropes.

See you on the battlefield!
Just saying, ferret is easier than rat.

The Lady Shael

Rakefur, please don't double post. Also when that was written, ferret wasn't a race in the game.

Like Kilk said, you guys are still learning the ropes yourselves, though to be honest I'd rather have newbies teaching newbies than no one teaching/learning anything at all. If you want to help teach, the best thing you can do is read up on strategies, test them yourself, and ask questions to vets. Vets love answering strategy questions, they just aren't proactive about taking newbies under their wing.

Another good thing a semi-newbie can do is compile information to enhance the game guide. Think of the game guide from a newbie's point of view...what do you think should be in it?

RWLers, your wish is my command...as long as it complies with the rules.
