Blood Wake

The Facebook killer is here.

Send me your email address if you'd like an invite. I think you have to be over 18 and possibly already have a Gmail account.

It looks interesting, but we won't really know what its capable of until they open signups

Ollie gave me an invite and I've poked around, seems well laid out.
Should be interesting, hopefully it doesn't end up like Wave and Buzz

I do, but it is the only way I stay in touch with a number of old friends. I am hoping that Google+ takes off enough that I can delete my facebook account in favor of something -slightly- more privacy conscious.

That, and I would like to do my bit to kill facebook's monopoly on the social networking scene.

Haha, I find it funny that hippie here has been using his facebook account to advertise google +. (seriously add him)  :D

Anyway, I want to sign up and will probably, but I'll probably still use facebook into people properly start using google +. Also Shadow, I think I agree facebook has a monopoloy but it's ironic that you want Google of all companies to kill it. If google takes over the social networking scene, they'll monopolize most of the largest sites on the internet to an extent.

Biggest video service= youtube
Biggest search engine and most visited site= google
One of the largest browsers= google chrome

I don't dislike google or think they're evil, but I think replacing facebook with google+ would give google even more control, hopefully there'll be a similar divide between the two eventually in terms of users.

I'm currently in top position by a huge margin BUT I'm intentionally dropping down to the bottom.

Kilkenne

I'm not sure that what a lot of people (Firetooth did not imply this in any way, not saying you did sir tooth) see as the downside when they say "Well Google will have more control over things." Firefight was objective in his analysis about it, but some people feel like whenever something like this occurs (monopoly is a dirty word ohgod) that the company is out to get them. I'm pretty sure it's more that the company is just doing what is profitable, and social networking is still a gold rush as long as you have a big enough name to throw around.

I don't know that the company itself is really out to get anything but money, and this all makes logical sense. The same way that it makes sense to me that Facebook was/is trying to integrate a browser function into its service so that people who typically log into the interbutts and sit on facebook would never have to leave their precious site.

I guess the bottom line is, when I think about it, I don't really mind that Google has the potential to exercise influence in my life because I use their search engine, browser, and/or social networking service. The problem comes in when they do start to interfere, and on a personal level, I don't think I've been interfered with at all. That the search information and stuff that I've typed in exists is archived somewhere is disconcerting, but I figure that as long as they never attach names to that and publish all of it, or start releasing all sorts of crazy personal info, they can do whatever they want and I'll just kinda shrug and say "alright, neat". More power to them to drive innovation in social networking even after Facebook was declared undisputed king fairly recently.

I'm literally more concerned about the tinfoil-hat folks who see this as the sky is falling than I am about Google ruining my internet privacy. I'm also shocked that no one here has raised that kind of alarmism yet, usually there's someone in every batch of people who is staunchly anti-corporation-tinfoil-hat-man.

I'm not a huge fan of facebork. All I know is that I just  have some kind of twisted desire to to see Facebook go the way of Myspace. No idea why. Maybe the fact that everyone's so insistent that  's going to be around forever. I mean, there's been a movie about Facebook.I know the movie's more about the legal battles but I just find it weird that there's been a movie made about an internet web site :P

I'm not particularly worried about Facebook collecting my info at the moment. I''m really not sure what they would want to do with my info other than use it for targeted advertising. I guess I agree with Kilk in that  99% of this paranoia is unwarranted, but I still think it's worth keeping an eye out for strange internet business shenanigans.

Good post. I agree a lot of google opposition is paranoia, but they have done some things to make me feel uneasy and are getting a little to large in my opinion. I don't think they are evil, persay, but I do like a more balanced market in these things.

Does google + have pages for sites, people etc? (all I know so far is circles and video chat) If so, RWL needs one.

I don't want to give google a monopoly by any means, I just want to help break the one facebook has. Facebook is in no danger of losing in the short term - their member base is large enough to survive an exodus to g+. I also think that Google has a much better track record with customer privacy than facebook.

That said, I learned my lesson about info sharing on facebook. My G+ account will be extremely limited - only used to keep in touch with people.

I haven't seen an option to create pages or groups, but RWL will definitely be on that when I see it. I think I might have to remember the password to the redwallwarlords@gmail.com account which I lost years ago.....-.-
