The Lady Shael

Here's the topic. =)

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

RWLers, your wish is my command...as long as it complies with the rules.

I'm currently in top position by a huge margin BUT I'm intentionally dropping down to the bottom.

In a good job. I would want to have traveled overseas to Europe or Japan. Or at the very least, Canada. I want to be able to express myself without restraints. And I want to be here.

Pac-man

Ten years!?!? I can't think that far ahead! (lol, kidding)

Uh, I don't know. I've never traveled too much, so I really want to see parts of Europe and Asia. I have absolutely no idea what kind of career I would like to be in, although I think journalism or animation would be pretty awesome.

I hear ya.

Just to get this rolling, I'll add my response. Let's see, in 10 years I'll be 32 (eek). I definitely hope to be married by then, with at least one kid. I hope I'll be working at a company I can really be proud of (either the one I'm at now or another computing industry company), with some kind of manager job, like some kind of project supervisor or engineering manager. I also really hope I moved out of my town by then...or at least lived somewhere else for a while.

Hopefully I'll still be updating RWL still then. =p It'll either still be text-based, or a crazy MMO playable on whatever the popular consoles are then.

Just to give some ideas...

-what university do you see yourself at? (if you haven't gone yet)
-what do you plan to study?
-what kind of job do you see yourself doing?
-what activities or skills will you know by then?
-what else do you hope to have accomplished by then?

I hope to be married to Shael and she will have already had at least one kid. I will stay at home with the kid and essentially contribute nothing to the house's earnings, but that will be okay because she will financially support both of us by being a project supervisor or engineering manager. Also we'll live in an indeterminate place that isn't the american southeast. (The joke was there to be made, sorry)

All joking aside, I'm hoping that I will have finished my advanced degrees and can find a position teaching European History at a major university. Really not that different than what I do now, but I just get paid peanuts for it now...and there's a ton of extra work involved.

If RWL is still around, that'll be the time that I make my third big resurgence and yell at kids about how things were so much different/better 20 years ago.

-.-

There are actually a surprising amount of guys I know who aspire to be house-husbands.

I'll be 33. I might get married at some point depending on the tax situation and whether or not it's advantageous to us to be married at a given time. No children. We both despise children. That is why I love my girlfriend.

My wish is to be a Network Administrator for a mediumish sized company. Hopefully a modern company as I don't want to dress myself up every day to impress nobody but my coworkers. Spotting the morons is easy enough, whether they're nice to look at doesn't matter.

Thats the wish.

The reality is likely a mid-management position for some large company that does something that I have absolutely no interest in. Like commercial contracting or sales.

Given that you work in IT, this does not surprise me in the least bit.

Who doesn't want to sit home and play vidya and consume beer all day?

I did once know a guy like this though. His wife was in the right place at the right time in the late 80s and got signed on at IBM with only a high school diploma... she now makes ~600k a year and he watches the sitter watch the child.

Good thing I'm not one of them. SORRY SHAEL IT'S JUST NOT WORKING OUT. I can't imagine not doing something. Well, I can imagine it because my imagination is pretty cool, but still.

Also I intend to live in wolf bite's basement if that's cool with him.

wolf bite

Asking my pilot if the jet is warmed up and wondering what all that noise is from the basement.

Ooh, I don't know. I'm on a fine art degree but I don't think I could deal with the stress of being a full-time artist (it is a stressful job, I swear! Lots of self-promotion, lots of guest spots lecturing at colleges - I can't really deal with public speaking :P) Hopefully I'll be working as a production designer (oversees the general 'look' of the thing) for film or TV.
I'm planning on doing a BBC production apprenticeship once I finish university but I need to learn to drive first, I don't know when I'm going to be able to afford lessons between then and now. I live in London and nobody drives here.

That's my realistic goal. Of course I actually want to be a rock star.  :)

Don't want kids, that's something that horrifies me. Could give or take marriage, but don't really fancy it. No problem with being in a long-term relationship though.

I want to travel for a bit in the style of the book 'The Beach'.

Sharptooh

Well, ten years from now I'll be 27 (a scary though), I hope to be either in a job coding something genuinely interesting and beneficial to society, or working as a web developer (the latter seems infinitely times more likely), hopefully I'll be enjoying myself, I enjoy doing that kind of thing now, hopefully things won't have changed that much as regards that in 10 years

I would like to have seen at least some interesting places by then, and to have visited my family in Canada, Spain, and maybe in Italy

Hopefully I'll have a been able to buy a house by then (although it doesn't look likely with the property prices around here) I'll probably be renting some kind of dump (let's hope not XD)

As for skills, I'd like to keep progressing with programming languages, hopefully I'll never stop, the day I stop learning things about computers is a sad day

I'd also hope that I'm still active on these forums (and maybe ingame) in 10 years, I can't see why I wouldn't be, although 10 years is a long time

I can imagine myself reading this in 10 years and probably thinking "He didn''t know how wrong he was" XD

I'll be 23 in ten years.  I''ll most likely be doing online college.  I'm gonna get a Ph.D. in art history (not really, I don''t know what), hope to work SOME sort of computer-related job.
I'll probably know some martial arts, and hope to have colonized Mars.  :P  Also, I'll be Wolf's pilot
