10 - 13
14 - 17
18 - 21
22 - 25
26 - 29
30 - 33
Older than 33
Older than dirt

The Lady Shael

I think ours go from 800-2400. When I took it the highest score possible was 1600, they changed the scale the next time they administered the test.

Hah yeah I don't even know how it works anymore.

But what Shael said; 1600 was the cap when I took it.

I only ever took the ACT, but even that changed after I took it. There's a writing section now in addition to everything else. In the midwestern US generally you only take the SAT if you're going to a school out of the region. Everyone around here takes ACT scores as the primary indicator.

I do not know why this is.

The Lady Shael

I took both, as did most kids in my area, but SAT was the necessary one.

That's really weird. Schools up here don't even ask you for an SAT. I think you can affix it if you really want to and your ACT was significantly worse for some reason. Everyone that I know that ended up taking the SAT (it's a pain to even get into the scheduled ones in this city, there are so few versus ACT times) were applying down south or out west. I couldn't imagine bothering with two of those standardized tests. It was so boring the first time around..

The Lady Shael

Yeah, I think I took both tests twice. That's why I'm glad I got the GRE waived for grad school =D Would not want to go through that testing stuff again.

I only took the ACT, I believe though that the SAT was for along the coastlines and inland is more ACT accepted...don't know why though

Isn't it more about the level of the school? Ivy League and the next tier prefer SAT and local colleges and such prefer ACT?

My SAT was 1580 the 3rd time I took it, which was in my junior year of high school. I didn't bother trying to improve on it my senior year. I'm staring prepping for the GRE in the face within the next year or two and it scares the heck out of me.

Unless the distinction is Public versus Private (which most Ivy League Universities are --Private), then no. UW (Wisconsin) only needs the ACT, and if you poke around a bit, it's in the elite class of universities in just about every category...'Cept it's public. Ohnoes.

The GRE is so obnoxiously rigid that it's stupidly easy as long as you actually did learn something. It was hyped to be something pretty stupid when I was applying to grad school.

Neobaron

ACT was presented to me as a basic skills type thing while the SAT was the higher tier.

It might not be like that anymore, but then I didn't attend a normal high school either.

That and the SAT was stupidly easy.

Eheh. Yeah, that's my problem. My undergrad degree is in theatre management but right now I'm working on my CPA certification and hoping to get my Master's in Finance. Not exactly compatible fields. Oops.

And yes, public/private sounds like it might be closer to the divide. Here in Texas the public schools are all pretty much terrible except for University of Texas at Austin, and they deviate and prefer SAT, or at least did when I was in school.

It's so good to see cal posting up in here again =D [/i have nothing more to add]

I am 15 too, lol.
Surprisingly I have also taken the SAT last year.

Even more surprisingly I got 2260.
800 math
730 crit reading
730 grammar

I didn't really study at all, and ended up with a 2100 ish (with an abysmal score in writing). Hopefully my 2 intensive SAT review classes do something about that...

Though I'll never understand College admissions. This year was an above average year in our school, with a slew of people getting into Princeton, Columbia and Stanford (they're really popular here), and about 30 or something going into NYU (maybe they're going for the shopping?!?). However, this guy who never studies AT ALL, and has a "don't ask me, because I honestly have no idea" appearance got into Stanford and Brown and is going to major in Music/Physics.

It doesn't help that my former tutor got into the school I personally want to attend with a perfect average and 2400. Actually, it seems like everybody around me can stomp me in the face with their stats. Interesting fact: College admittance rates are supposed to go UP from now until 2015. So, all the high schoolers now will have much less competition than before. Hooray!

P.S. When did Redwall: Warlords become CollegeConfidential?
Why can't I stay away from this game?

I may not be having the SAT's next week, but I'm still going crazy about it. How did we start talking about SAT's when we first were talking about our age?
