Redwall Discussion?

I put up this poll since talk about the books keep coming up. And I think out of respect we should have a discussion board for the books, characters and the Abbey, etc.
This game is based off the books and is partially named after it. Please everyone vote. Thanks!

I think it would really help keep new players want to stay here by having a list of topics to immediately start talking on a common ground with older players about what it is that got them here. However then I must suggest one for discussing strategy games of all kinds.

I think creating a board for Redwall Discussion will communicate to new players that we don't really care about the books: I forsee a new topic every 3 months or so. That's pretty depressing, and is more likely to drive them away.

However, I do agree it would be nice to talk about how we all started here, and what about the books we liked and so on. That would really go best in the GD, as it's normally the first place a new person heads to check what's going on. If we get some good responses, we could even sticky it.

TS, maybe you could get us started in the GD?

Not necessarily. It depends how useful other people are likely to find the thread.

I disagree Matt. I know we never talk about the books but the discussion board would make us more inclined to start topics and topics like "favorite wielder of Martin's sword" will never die. Even if it's been a month since anyone posted there, noobs who areyoung Redwall fans will still want to voice their opinion and get the topic started again.

I seriously vote that we add a Redwall Discussion board. If it doesn't work we can get rid of it, but i really think we would see a lot of action there.

Maybe we never talk about books because there is no discussion board for them...

I think it would be a good recruitment tool if it was active, but would probably drive people away if it wasn't. My suggestion is that we make a topic that we sticky (for now) and gauge the activity. If it is good, we can move on to a discussion board.

It does seem strange that we don't have a board that explicitly says "Talk about the books".

I remember the Real Life forum, with its gazillions of sub boards. It was confusing and boring. It was designed to promote discussion at a time many of us were moving on to other things, but it kind of had the opposite effect. Even now, in its condensed version, the Real Life board rarely gets used.

I suspect a Redwall board would be used in a similar way. I mean, I'm happy to be proven wrong, but do you see more than a handful of times where the books have been discussed in the last year? I don't think it has anything to do with there being no specific board- Just forum-goers don't particularly care.

I'm not opposed to strengthening this game's ties to the books. But it probably has to be done in game, with themed rounds and so on. It would be hard to turn this into a really Redwall themed forum without some massive revamping and a new crowd of people pushing that agenda.

If it was going to be just 1 topic, people would be changing the subject often if they wanted to discuss something different and it would become a shambles after a while.

aye, I thought that too. having a stickied topic about Redwall doesn't test the effectiveness of a discussion board.

Fair enough. Could do with some forum board maintenance anyway, there are quite a few about that will never be used again.
