Well, I waited awhile on this one, to see it if I was going to get anymore votes. But it seems that Eluveitie has won again, by a vote of 3 to 2. So here's a little Slayer, we'll see if that can knock Eluveitie off it's perch.

ELUVEITIE - Memento (2009)

Slayer - Raining Blood (Studio Version)

Slayer for me.

My first thought was that its a bit mainstream for cagematch though... If a random member of public was asked to name a death metal band they knew of, they're likely to say Slayer (if anything), and if asked to name one of there songs, it'd be Raining Blood...
But I guess its a good gateway song to introduce people to death metal...it was for me.

Slayer is a thrash metal band, actually. Though many do think they are the first death metal band as well. Anyway, while it may be somewhat mainstream, I've never heard it on the radio. I don't think the song ever even made it to the charts, though the album it was off debuted in the high 90s.

Aargh! Oops. You're right, technically speaking. My bad, I wasn't thinking.

Speaking of bands which founded Death Metal though (if you can be bothered and haven't heard of them already)...check out the band actually called 'Death'...espescially the album Symbolic. It is perhaps my favourite album of all time...try the song 'Crystal Mountain'.

LOL. It doesn't matter that much.

Have heard of them, and yes, they are indeed good.

I thought we were gonna avoid metal for a bit?

Coding out holes in the game is the best way to do things.
Relying an the admins to patrol is a) time consuming for the admins in question b) unreliable c) only invites conflict
There is no conflict or "I didn't know any better!" excuses with a coded in rule.

Tried too, but too many people were annoyed that I had gone away from metal. Also, people haven't exactly been pouring in the non-metal suggestions, on the other hand, I have like 10 metal suggestions.

Gorak

metal is always popular
no matter where you go

can't wait for summer, so metal can make me some money again

Since we're on the topic of metal already... I went to the Big Day Out festival last weekend. Got to see both Fear Factory (new album comes out tomorrow) and Mastodon just metres from the stage...and Karnivool for a third time lol.
As BDO isn't really a metal concert though, I had to take in quite a few nonmetal acts throughout the day... Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Muse (they were great actually), Rise Against...and many many more lol.

In March I'll be going to Soundwave Festival...Trivium, Meshuggah, Faith No More, HIM, Anthrax, Isis, Anvil + about 30 others.

And I saw Dream Theatre live about a month ago!

A good year for live metal bands so far  :)

Though missed out on tickets to ACDC  :(

Anyone else been to any music concerts recently, or going to one soon?

Genevieve

Did you like the BDO, Marell? Was it the first time you'd been? This year was the first time I didn't go since... 05 i think lol. All the bands I would have seen have been there before in the last few years anyway, but I guess Mastodon is pretty big for you metal fans. I didn't really consider buying a ticket coz I had a poo time last year in 45 degree heat, and then it sold out anyway, first time for Adelaide i think.
I'm actually surprised you haven't seen Karnivool more than three times lol aren't they from Perth?

I'm considering going to Good Vibrations next weekend, coz I'll be in Sydney anyway, but the people there aren't really going to interest you guys so yeah...

Yeah had a great time  :)
This was my second BDO...first one was in 2007 (I think) when Rage Against the Machine went.

And yeah there weren't really a lot of bands I really liked this year, but there were plenty I was happy to listen to (eg. Muse, Powderfinger, Mars Volta to name a few) along with the 3 metal bands I mentioned. Mastodon were pretty awesome, but Fear Factory was the main band I was going for and they lived up to expectations.
Plus this was the first year I was actually overage, so could spend plenty of time in 18+ sections drinking with mates haha.
And the weather was really good too...clear skies but only about 30 degrees (celsius that is, for any Americans reading this)...cetainly not 45!

Death

Forget metal. Listen to prog metal.

RATM were amaaaazing :D I think that was 2008, 2007 was Tool.

Muse and The Mars Volta were pretty awesome last time I saw them too. I'm a massive Powderfinger hater lol. But yeah, regardless of who's there it's usually a pretty wicked day.

Have a good time at Soudwave! My 40 year old aunty is going... how embarassing lol.

Forget metal. Listen to prog metal.

Why not both? Prog metal is one of the main genres of metal I'm into (that, Thrash, Death, Melodeath and some Power and Metalcore).

A lot of mine cross genre boundaries, but are still classified prog metal:
- Between the Buried and Me
- Cynic
- Exivious
- Kalisia
- Riverside
- Opeth
- Nevermore
- Pain of Salvation
- Into Eternity
- Adagio
- Ark
- Protest the Hero

Plus the pure prog metal bands like Dream Theater, Remption...
