I'm on XP currently, but I'm planning on switching to 7.

too many errors with XP lately, so switched to CentOS 5. But it didn't like flash, or dual monitors, or Reason and the list of problems went on. I didn't have the patience to get everything going, plus it started crashing...alot.  So I switched to Win7

I quite like it so far

Er, Gorak...  CentOS is a server-grade stable linux distro.  Not recommended for personal desktop use, as its all old (but stable) packages.  I used it for a while 'cause it really is as stable as a rock (and I was using my desktop to host my website), never worried about it...  but being several versions behind on software packages (CentOS is still shipping Firefox 2 I think, which is alright but lacking features) gets annoying.
Ubuntu and Fedora are two of the big desktop linux distributions.  Dell ships Ubuntu, I think HP either is or is going to ship it.  Ubuntu has the best driver support and a really good community forum where you can ask questions and find answers.

I use Apple OS X 10.5 for my main desktop, Fedora 10 on my server, and Vista on my secondary desktop.

I have CentOS5 on my server, so it was readily available
just for desktop use, noone supports it... like Adobe, so it's a pain in the butt to get anything to work

as for the constant crashing... that's more likely due to a failing motherboard, hence, I have a whole new system.
The old ASUS P4R800 was after all, salvaged from the garbage pile of the colledge tech centre

it served me well for 2 years, but alas, bad capacitors have brought her to an end

oh well, I was sick of dealing with DDR1 anyways
that poo expensive now!

On my decent computer, Vista. On this laptop, I think it's Office or Proffesional.

If you mean XP, I thought there were only Home and Pro editions...

Aha, congrats Ashy
What'd you get?  10.3, so an eMac,  G4 iMac,  PowerMac of some variety?  Maybe an upgraded G3 iMac
If it'll run 10.3 it'll likely run 10.4, which is a nice upgrade.  If its faster than 866mhz it'll run Leopard =D

<3 my 1ghz G4 iMac

And pah Gorak, DDR1 is cheap compared to PC133.  You can pay around $50 for a new stick of 512mb (off newegg, no less)
Adobe actually does support linux for stuff like Flash and their crappy PDF reader, they even offer their own RPM repository for it so keeping up to date is easy.  Fedora is a better choice for a Redhat-based desktop (CentOS is a direct clone of Redhat's RHEL).
My 'server' is a 1ghz P3 bought from NCSU surplus for $1, runs great.  Its the Fedora 10 box, hosts my personal site windfish.org.

it's an old G4 PowerMac, looks pretty dated but it does the job. Wish it was a G4 iMac though, those things look like little robots :D  Only trouble is that the screen doesn't show the colour green - makes art/design work a little difficult... eh, I've got another screen at home but I need someone to drive it to London..

Never had a Mac before so I've got no idea what I'm doing. :D

windhound

If you click the Apple logo top left, then select About This Mac it'll tell you basic system specs with the option to see More Info.  There's also a sticker on the back with its factory specs
If you're lucky you've got a 500mhz+ G4, those are quite usable.  I ran across a 350mhz a while back, it bogged down a bit too easily.
Most any information you need about its hardware can be found here - http://lowendmac.com/ppc/index.shtml

I've got a Macintosh Plus, three G3 iMacs, a G4 Powermac, and two G4 iMacs.  Old Apple stuff is neat
