Don't know if this has been done before, but I was interested to see what the numbers are now.

Biggest problem with this poll is that we only have a handful of girls
And I'm not positive all of them play games

I don't think a lot of the people here consider themselves gamers. I know I don't.

Players here?
Though, technically, I don't play the game. I just hang out and occasionally code stuff.

Sorry my title was off.  I was just curious.  I know I am in the minority, so I was just wondering how many other girls played the game.

Ooh. That's me. I'm a girl. I play the game.

...am I really the only one? Because there's only one vote on the poll...

Briar

Nope you can count me on that one too.  If I had to estimate I would say that you could count the number of girls who play the game on two hands.

Not sure if thats a problem... I would vote for girl if girls were in fact better gamers... Truth is, there are fewer girls playing video games, and I've seen WAY more males who play well then females....

I also noticed when i was playing WoW that female characters got babied a lot. So I started creating only female avatars, and people would be WAY nicer to me!

The Lady Shael

I'm not much of a gamer. I started playing WC3 before winter break, just playing through the campaigns. I've been meaning to try Dota though...

As defined by urbandictionary.com

Gamer
The term "Gamer" by itself can apply to nearly anyone who plays video games on a regular basis or even once in a long while. However, even among gamers and the definitions on this site there is a large amount of debate about who and what gamers exactly are. The best way to define the term "gamer" is not to define it at all but accept that there are in fact many types of gamers out there and there is no blanket term that can cover them all.

Casual gamers are the people who mostly own console systems and buy mostly sports and racing games. They don't like fantasy games and only enjoy sci-fi games based on movies they may have seen. This group, unfortunatly, makes up the bulk of the gaming community and the current popularity of [poop] games on [poop] console systems is evidence of this. Casual Gamers think that having a "life" consists entirely of getting laid and drunk on a regular basis and have very little interest in games outside of a way to pass the time without spending alot of money.

The group of people who call themselves Hardcore gamers aren't often quite as "hardcore" about gaming as they would like to think. These are the people you see complaining that games now come in fancy modes like "3D" and debating the finer points of why Final Fantasy 6 was better than Final Fantasy 7. The only people who might actually be hardcore are the people who sit an camp the firegiant hideout in evercamp for 72 hours at a time just to get some item that will help them camp better. I wouldn't rate either side of this coin as being a very pretty sight.

Finally there are the true gamers who actually treat gaming as a real HOBBY and not just a way to pass time or something to try and collect hundred upon thousands of. True Gamers just try to find an enjoy the best games out there and don't like getting ripped off because Casual gamers are pushing the industry towards a point where the only games that will be profitable are Madden and GTA. True Gamers often own high quality PC's and play PC games most often. Despite what most people might think a PC isn't hard to operate and doesn't cost too much. The people who say PC's are too expensive are often spending hundreds of dollars on console systems that can't do even half as many things as a PC can do and to make matters worse they own more than one of these stone age devices.

Incredible amount of bias in that description
You can almost feel the contempt radiating from it

No.  Those are horrible descriptions
Next time use the wikipedia =D

Casual Gamer - Casual gamer is a loosely defined term used to describe a type of video game player whose time or interest in playing games is limited compared with a hardcore gamer. Casual gamers can conceivably consist of any people who show more than a passing interest in video games, therefore it is difficult to categorize them as a group. For this reason, games which attempt to appeal to the casual player tend to strive for simple rules and ease of game play, the goal being to present a pick-up-and-play experience that people from any age group or skill level could enjoy. A casual gamer usually has less than 5 years of experience

Hardcore Gamer - Hardcore gamer is a widely used term applied to describe a type of video game player. [...] Some describe hardcore gamers as those whose leisure time is largely devoted to playing or reading about video games. This type of gamer prefers to take significant time and practice on games, in contrast to a casual gamer. Many hardcore gamers pride themselves on mastering the rules or use of a game, although this is not a strict requirement. Conflicting opinion argues that it is not so much the time spent on games however, as casual gamers can spend hundreds of hours on games without ever mastering them.

There is no such category as "True Gamer"
You can shunt everyone into Casual or Hardcore.

Just as a side-note, I do take issue with the anti-console bit at the end.  Consoles are significantly better for the vast majority of games.
Yes, a high-end PC can and generally will look better than a console but a high-end PC does not cost $300-$400.  If not used for gaming you can get a good, solid PC for sub-$500.  Given Gaming PC's start somewhere around 1k, you save money going PC + Console.
Also, PC's do not do local multiplayer well.  If at all.

I don't consider myself a gamer, I don't really think of RWL as a game.  It's more a lifestyle :P
I will not deleted this

Gorak

I guess I fit into casual gamer
I enjoy some games, but don't like giving all my time to them, as I have better things to do

I actually find hardcore gamers to be somewhat pathetic human beings, who really need to get out more

I take umbrage at that. I consider myself a hardcore gamer. Playing video games is one of my favorite things to do, and I generally spend about half of my free time playing them. I get out quite a bit; I have friends and a good, steady job.

half your free time is definately pushing it, but still not what I consider "hardcore"
I know people here who live solely for video games, and have no other ambition in life

that's pathetic
