I just downloaded the 2nd beta of IE 8 and in my opinion it sucks even worst than the last one, it doesn't display some content that other browsers display perfectly, eg on virginmedia it won't display a something that displays the latest videos, and I've found a few  other websites that it doesn't display properly, plus it looks worse than IE 7, if this is a glimpse of what IE 8 will really be like then I think it's going to lose a few more users.

Sorry for the monologue, what I'm really trying to ask is have any of you tried it and what do you honestly think of it?

I dont bother with IE anymore

Neither would I but I need to keep it as it's essential to some of my homework, to access some of my files from school I need to be using IE, which kinda sucks, you think they'd make it compatible with other browsers but I don't think they're planning to do that anytime soon, all the computers at my school use IE too, I can't understand why though.

Eh.
IE 8 is a beta.  Its not ready for release, its not done.

That said...  There's really no point in using IE anymore.  Firefox has a substantial market share so websites can no longer ignore it, very few IE only sites now.

If you want you can get the useragent switcher plugin for Firefox and it can pretend to be IE.  It'll only get you so far if the website requires Active X or has some IE-only haxs though.  IE Tab will allow you to use firefox, just open ie in a tab

People use IE because its standard and "good enough"

and because they don't know about the other browsers. I know a few people who think "internet explorer" is the same as "internet".

Some people don't even know that a browser is really just a window into the internet.

Firetooth

Most people (with the exception of 3) I know rigidally think IE is the only browser.

I'm currently in top position by a huge margin BUT I'm intentionally dropping down to the bottom.

I was thinking of people who do know better but dont bother
The people who think of a computer as a magic box arn't going to be researching alternative browsers.  They're doing good if they can get online at all

I know a lot of people who have no idea what a browser is, and some who do and refuse to move away from IE, my family refused to let me put Firefox on the desktop computer even after IE kept glitching and letting in viruses, eventually they gave in and are happy with the decision they made, we have had 0 viruses since we stopped using IE. I talked to someone I know the other night, he seemed to have a lot of viruses and I told him about IE's various flaws and said he should use Firefox, my mum backed me up but he just said, no I think I'll just use internet explorer.

Could you tell me how to do that, and would ir work with Netscape?

windhound

Nay Sharptooth, they're Firefox plugins...
And, er.  Netscape is dead.  http://browser.netscape.com/  They said it themselves,
QuoteOfficial End of Support
Given AOL's current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it's the right time to end development of Netscape branded software. Read the history page for more details about this decision.
Please do not use discontinued browsers, they nolonger receive security updates and can be just as bad if not worse than IE.  If you want something Netscape-like checkout Seamonkey http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ which is also by Mozilla

You can install Firefox plugins very easily, just click Tools / Add-ons and select the Get Addons tab.  Search for what you want.

Also...  IE has its flaws, but its not exactly an openportal for viruses.  It still requires surfing to unsafe sites.
If you stayed with sites you knew to be safe there would be no problem.  If you visit the seedier parts of the internet, well...  yes, you're likely to run across a site that exploits one of IE's bugs.

For the record I never got any viruses for the computer, it was mostly my sister, I know Netscape's dead but I really like some of the features it has and can't find them in any other browser, and like you say if I only visit safe sites that I trust there shouldn't be any problem.

Are you sure, Navigator 9 uses Firefox's code, and I've downloaded a few addons for Firefox that seem to work in Navigator.

windhound

Seamonkey is the new Netscape

What features does Netscape have that others dont?  I'm just curious.  All the browsers are layed out slightly different, the features may exist but are not where you think they should be.
