It is romantic, but a girl is the main character, she's no nerd, and she and the love interest have cancer. It's very powerful.
I'm glad you took my recommendations, and I can see your point about aAoK.
Paper Towns is a bit alike, but there's no one sidekick, and the boy has no quirks. Not as good, but still powerful.
Just got through the Fault in Our Stars.

As always, it's very readable. Doesn't follow the same formula, which is nice, although John Green loves using death to talk about the meaning of life, and I'd kinda rather he didn't. Mostly because I've related to the narrative the whole way, but when it gets all philosophical, and I disagree with his views, I start to question my stance on the rest of the book. It's a minor complaint, though.

Enjoyed it very much. Looking for Alaska still my favourite.
