my health was also above 50, why isn't this working?

I forget how exactly the spell works, but i think it depends on DP (defense points), so maybe his guard towers are stopping you.

Did you have your own leaders ratio high enough? You need a leaders ratio (leaders / huts) of 50 or above to do the mission, as well as a 50% advantage over the defender's total troop defensive points with your own total troop offensive points. Also, even if all normal troops are killed, leaders count heavily for defending cities--a single leader counts for about nearly 3 skiffs. It's quite likely that you don't have enough leaders / huts or are lacking a 1.5x advantage over their total troop defensive points.
