Hum... Try it, it just might work with RWL. I'm fairly sure that FAF would work on that server.

You may lack the ability to set cronjobs, which RWL needs for turns.

Coolio...now I just have to decide between FAF and RWL. I'm more comfortable with RWL, but FAF has some features I think quite highly of.

The RWL code is a bit rough at the moment. Latest relase was 2 years ago... A lot of bugs have been (re)discovered since then. RWL may put another relase in some time, but they have yet to comitt to it nor have they putforth a timetable (the latter of which is perfectly reasonable IMHO, the former... :( ). Until then you have some major security issues to deal with...

RWL:BAXX has procterates, skiff races, and that whole split attack system, all of which FAF lacks. However FAF has the clan forums builtinto the game, clan bank, cronless operation, a far more flexable skinning system (hard to use though, you can fall back to just using CSS),  support for an arbatary number of trooptypes (though same troops across all eras I belive) amung other things.

Yeah, it's just that I'm more familiar with RWL's numerical system. The only feature that I really like that FAF lacks is the specific leadership ability for each race.

Also, I read a post on the FAF boards that outlined a new system for networth; a ton less for troops, and economic resources weighing in much more heavily into networth value. Was this just discussed, or actually implemented? ('Cause I agree wholeheartedly with it).

(Btw, I don't want to start an argument, but they have committed to releasing the code--it's been stated more than once, in fact--just no timetable).

I'm not sure entirely... It wouldn't be all that hard to modify the code to do it. In fact I belive it is in the same place for both FAF and RWL, under funcs.php. http://faf.staronesw.com/?source&script=funcs&srv=1 (search for networth). I think it is avable as an option.

That was implemented, found lacking, and discarded. The only good thing about it, really, was the reduced amount gained via sacking. And maybe food values could be a little higher. Same with cash...

Btw, that was my idea, in case you wounder who I am to state that it was found lacking...

However, should you wish to implement it, I believe it would be relatively simple. You only need to find the NW values for everything, and insert new values. I believe that's under config.php...

Or maybe it's funcs.php, like Nev (er, Bjorn) said. If it's not one place, check the other.

Oh right... config.php has the base/networth values for everything. funcs.php says how it is calculated from these values. So to make something stronger all you must edit config.php.

Ruddertail, you ever think about becomeing a developer? ;)

Meh, I believe that would entail me actually learning to code. While I would like to, I've far to lazy to teach myself... Maybe if I could find a class in PHP somewhere...

White Fang,

I would not recommend using the RWL code at this time since it is in major revision. If you can wait a few months then there should be a workable game for you to play with.

There are a lot of differences between the RWL and FAF code. I am not a coder so I can not talk about the workings but can about the functions. Both have positive and negatives. If you are interested in my even and fair review of the FAF code, you can find it here:

http://faf.staronesw.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1280&hl=

Whichever code you do, neither side of the ?feud? will fault you for using the other code. Both sides will help you as much as they can. We are all in favor and agreement that more people should spread the fun of this great text game.
