Deathclaw

England lost in penalties for the fifth time in a major tournament in 16 years.

David Beckham came off injured after 52 minutes, and Rooney was sent off at the hour mark for a flash of indiscipline. Rooney raked his studs across Ricardo Carvalho, who was on the floor trying to win the ball, with 2 other Portugal players attempting to win possession as well. Carvalho over reacted and Ronaldo sprinted to the referee asking for his club team mate to be sent off. Rooney turned to Ronaldo and pushed him away, and referee Horatio Elizondo then gave the United striker his marching orders. No goals were scored through normal or extra time, and Ricardo saved 3 spot kicks - Gerrard, Lampard, and Carragher. Only Owen Hargreaves managed to convert from 12 yards. United winger Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner for Portugal in the shootout. Portugal advance to face the winner of France/Brazil.
Glory, Glory, Man United!
