Germany are the first country into the quarter finals, coming at the expense of 10 man Sweden. Sweden had Teddy Lucic sent off for a second bookable offense in the 35th minute, but both yellow cards seemed rather harsh. German striker Lukas Podolski bagged a brace to see his side to a 2-0 victory, while Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann picked up the clean sheet. Sweden saw Champions League final hero Henrik Larsson miss a penalty, while Swedish keeper Andreas Isaksson made six top saves and kept the score from getting out of hand.

The host nation will face today's winner of the Argentina - Mexico match.
Glory, Glory, Man United!
