Ummm.. aqualis you are joking I hope about the druids and elves... otherwise I just feel sorry for you. Druids were the shamanic priests of the Celtic tribes. You are apparently the only person who did not know this.

As to graven idols...
One of the Ten commandments. Read it. ph34r my l33tness.

Do not represent gods by any carved statue or picture of anything in the heaven above, on the earth below, or in the water below the land.

Now then, you were saying?

And I was being a little overdramatic, because attitudes like the one cloud was expressing piss me off. Even if it was a joke. The Easter bunny isn't really that much of an idol that relaces god, Santa is a bit more of one, but it's obviously not worship of false idols exactly, but it's darn close.

Maybe I do have a skewed view of religion, or maybe it's because I have none, so I can see the hypocrisy clearly. I don't really care if you are being sacrilegious, provided you don't come after me for doing something that's against what you believe. It's when people start expressing these sanctimonious, holier than thou attitudes that I start pointing out the fact that you aren't exactly following what the book says yourself. Especially these fundamentalist nutballs.

Crazy people say what?

Exodus, Chapter 20: vrs. 4, NIV.

"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anying in heaven above or on the earth or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a Jelous God..."

Nothing against making images, only against worshiping them.

Volkov you always seem to have this idea that you see things the rest of us don't when it comes to religion. You know darn well i am just as sinicle as you are. I see the exact same hypocracy that you do. But there are obviously things you don't see, or rather feel. like the spirit and whatnot, y'know that corny stuff.

And I'm special too so I'm one of the only ones who can see stuff like that, as well!
COOL STORY BRO

I think all 3 of you are jealous tools working for the modern day version of what the catholic church was in the middle ages... trying to passivley convince everyone that they are wrong with baseless facts and hoping that your own free will will carry the day for you. You, like the French in every war after 1871, are wrong and doomed to failure.

BTW the "traditional date" at which christ "rose" coincides on the roman calender with the pagan festivals.

BTW also, the catholic church didnt "invent" christmas, or easter. It was the Christian church that did it, and another big BTW, it wasnt the middle ages, it was between 3-500ad at latest that most of the religious holidays were already set in place. Modern commercialism turns them into what you percieve them to be.

---

Also, Rudder is right. At no point int he KJV of the bible does it prevent the creation of "idols" so long as theyre not worshipped. Furthermore, the old testament is just that; Old. It is a set of good suggestions, rather than a true to life way to live handed down by god. The old testament ceased to be a viable document for a way to live when god tore the curtain or whatever in the temple during the earthquake at jesus' death signifying it was open to the public rather than priests.

Look to the new testament when you talk about the laws of christianity, please. We're not jews, and dont care to try and combat your arguments if they are based on the old testament. (No offense against jews, but it is my understanding they dont use the new testament)

---

Seriously though volkov, you need to chill out mate. Nobody here made any SERIOUS mention of jesus or anything until you rocked up and disturbed the sleeping giant (I swear to god if you mention Beems comment I will beat you with a stick). I kept my tongue this long because I figured a better chrsitian (and by that i mean one who isnt a deist... or one who isnt neo) would be able to spout this stuff.

For you, this holiday is all about commercialism, and you need to keep that to yourself just as everyone else here was keeping their religions to themselves before you said something.

---

If you're going to pick a fight do it in UMD and make your intentions clear, im sure some of the more intellectual members of this community would be more than willing to step up to the plate and tussle with you, but a "Happy Easter" topic isnt the place for it. It ruins the mood of the reader whether they be christian, muslim, atheist, or whatever. I dont even celebreate easter, but that doesnt mean i wont go out and get a chocolate rabbit for myself... and thats what its all about on the outside. Religion is a personal ordeal, and nobody was forcing anything on you.

You do that as well then please. Let's just ignore the Ten Commandments. Oh and the traditional date is not the actual date. Tradition is not always right. And the christian church at that time WAS the catholic church, catholic means "universal". Most of this was set in place at the Council of Nicea, though many of the traditions were adopted or invented before that.

*Grins* Finally got you to say something. All I wanted. ROFL. *Pulls puppet strings gleefully*

Meh. Fine, I'll chill, it's just fun to cause a ruckus sometimes. Actually the holiday means nothing to me, I just see it as a chance to spend time with my family.

Ill speak to anything as long as its relevant, and to do so is never on behalf of anyone else.

Dont even imply that you caused me to say something.

Look at the 10 months calender and then at the 12 months, do the math, and you will see that the 2 events to coincide with one another, its a question of one religion being more dominant than the other.

Catholic implies a sect withint he christian church which grew to be an all-encompassing church. Dont forget our eastern orthodox friends who are actually older than "catholics" =-|

Like I said, old testament = good suggestions.

The 10 commandments are not laws, they are a list of examples of things no to do. God does, after all, see all sin as sin, with no one sin worse than another.

Wasn't aware this topic would build into a religious debate. I'd say something if I wasn't ignorant of the discussion, Besides I don't want to get yelled at, :-o

LOL. Don't be so grouchy Neo, now who's being all serious?

Oh and the 12 month calendar was in place before christianity came about, so I'm not sure what the point of that statement was.

Now it does, the original church was a catholic church as well, in the sense of it being universal, then it splintered and the "new" catholic church came about.
