 ever read Farinheit 451?
actually kinda good..  I read it for english..  it;s all about censorship..  and it shows that it's bad..

really, it all depends though..  'cause, like in war situations, if somone gets careless and accidentally puts somthin in writing that could be intercepted it could cause messup of plans and possibly deaths..

there is, ofcouse, taking it too far..

Yiss, good.  Though it doesn't help too much half of the time. XD

What, exactly, are you wanting to censor?

Wanting to hide pornography from kids?  That makes some sense.  Telling publishers that can't publish books that are critical of the government?  Bad.  Very bad.  Wanting to take Harry Potter out of libraries because it involves wizards?  Bad.  Censoring other books?  Also bad.

Generally, in my opinion, the people that try to censor things are narrow minded zealots that want to censor things that should not be censored.

Censorship is bad, dangit.  Why on earth would anybody be for it?

First they burn books, then they burn people.

Oh, and Farinheit 451 rocked my socks.

 Censorship violates free speech.

Therefore, IMHO, Censorship = Bad.

And, do you know how much I hate the phrase "Let's think of the children" when it comes ot this stuff? Sure, it ain't great to see pornography, but look at all the violence on TV. Is that healthy? At least sex between human beings is natural. I don't feel that violence to your fellow species is. We pride ourselves on being "above other animals", yet we are probably more violent to eachother than animals are.

Anyway, if we shelter children "for their own good"... Is it really for their own good? Or just for the good of people who want to shut down questioning minds?

(Yes, I'm a wacko, no, I don't do drugs. Nasty stuffs.)

I agree with Devari, what was with that janet jackson thing anyways, in Canada (well ontario at least, shouldn't speak for all the provinces) women are allowed to go topless anywhere a man is.  Network TV is no exception either, if theirs nudity (like on the sopranos on CTV), a warning will probably be given, and sometimes they don't even consider female toplessness nudity, so no warning.  Whereas on the american network channels and basic cable channels we get, they'll blur out a girl showing a little too much rump in her bathing suit   .  I mean honestly, it's just a lump of flesh, the site of it is not traumatizing and almost every boy will find a way to see it anyways, the only reason it's a big deal is cause people make it a big deal.  Does anyone honestly think that any child will be traumatized or even truely affected by seeing janet jackson, they may be from all the hoopla but not by janet.

But then where does it end?  (Not that I can understand that seeing a woman in her underwear is anymore revealing then the string bikini on the beach.)  But the line of freedom of speech keeps moving with each incidence. In the sixties, husband and wife had to have separate beds, and if in the same bed, they had to have one foot on the floor, even ?I dream of Jeannie?s? wardrobe was censored to cover her navel. ?Midnight Cowboy? had no sex in it but because of content was rated X, it is on TV uncensored now.  Slowly things have been decided not to be indecent. Each time the line keeps moving.  So if we decide that a topless woman is not obscene on TV, then what will be next? Then next after that?

The problem with keep moving the line of decency is that we move it to where we think it should be, then based on what it has become, the next step does not look so bad.
