Which do you think was better?

Personally, I was kind of disappointed in The Dark Knight Rises. Too many plot holes, too many out of character moments. Not enough Batman. On the other hand, I loved the Avengers. It didn't have quite the depth of story or social commentary of Batman, but the story it had was executed oh so much better. Plus, there is nothing I have seen that beats the entertainment value of the Hulk Smash. The scene with the Hulk and Loki was pure cinema gold. Dark Knight Rises had some good moments, even some funny moments, but none of them topped the best moments of the Avengers. Oh, and Loki was a much, much better villain than Sean Connery... I mean Bane.

The funny thing is, I'm basically a DC guy. Superman is my favorite character, I read and watched mostly DC comics and cartoons growing up, and I never really enjoyed several of the major Marvel heros. So I should be all for Batman here, but Avengers was just a better movie. Plus, like I said, it has the Hulk. Bane is big and strong, but he's not the Hulk, who is rapidly replacing Superman as my all time favorite character ever. Because the Hulk is awesome.

Avengers was a big, fun superhero movie, TDKR was more of a straight-up action movie which just happened to feature superheroes.

I really enjoyed both. I need to watch TDKR again - MY BOYFRIEND booked the tickets and read the seating plan upside down. He assured me that we didn't have the best seats, but they weren't the worst either: right at the back and a little to the side. We ended up in the literal worst seats in the cinema. Right at the front and right at the side. I had to turn my head if Bruce Wayne walked over to the other side of the room.

Bane was a waaaay better villain than Loki but we did pick up on the Sean Connery thing, haha. Everyone I know has been doing silly Bane/James Bond quotes for the last couple of weeks.

Dang, that sucks. I had good seats for both movies. Well, not the first time I saw Avengers, I was off to the right of the screen, but the second time I had good seats. That, by the way, is how much I liked Avengers, I was willing to shell out 10 bucks a second time.

LOL. Nice. Why do you think Bane was a better villain than Loki though? I liked the fact that you didn't really get what Loki was really up to until a good chunk of the way through the movie. With Bane, they spelled it out for you, and then spelled it out for you a couple more times in case you missed it the first time. Which is possible, because it was hard to follow what Bane was saying half the time.

I haven't seen The Avengers, which I'm a little embarrassed about, but I wanna talk about  TDKR.

I didn't actually find Bane hard to understand, I thought he was really coherent, much better than I expected. I did find him incredibly unmenacing, however. You know how in TDK, any second it feels like the Joker is gonna just kill someone or go mental? Bane is a different kinda bad guy, he's all articulate and reasonable and powerful, and well, you know when he's gonna kill someone before he does it.

I like Tom Hardy a lot as an actor, but don't think Bane did him many favours. Also I thought he looked a bit pudgy except for those massive shoulders.  Tom Hardy was way too short to look physically impressive as Bane. Not scary enough. The fight scene where Batman gets smashed is pretty freaking cool, though.

Anne Hathaway was amazing. Best thing about the movie, almost.

It didn't make heaps of sense, and while it was looong, I actually enjoyed the first half way more.

Maybe it was just the sound in the movie theater then. For me, it sounded like all his dialogue was about 10 decibels lower than the rest of the cast, and then the breath-mask thing garbled it even worse. I agree about him being un-menacing though. Much more of a classic "bad guy" than the Joker. He even did the evil overlord "you failed me, now you die" bit.

I enjoyed the first half more as well, because you're basically going, "OK, when's Batman going to show up?", then he does, and you go: "YAY BATMAN!". Then you get like 5 minutes of Batman action before Bane ruins his poo and then it's no more Batman for way to long. TL;DR NEEDS MOAR BATMAN

My feelings exactly.

*SPOILERS*

I thought Bane was a pretty crappy villain, especially in the end when he just ended up being a tool. I also thought the twist at the end was completely unnecessary and didn't add anything to the plot.

Finally, I don't really like my superheroes humanized. Avengers was full of bad-[Behind] [Behind]-kicking. <3 Hulk. TDKR was batman repeatedly getting his beaten up and being generally frail. (For this same reason, I also didn't much care for the most recent spiderman movie, where the entire time he just got beaten repeatedly by a lizard and won by dumb luck).

Agree 100%. I thought it was especially unnecessary to show them when Alfred looked up and smiled, where the hell is your Inception-style unknown ending, Nolan?!
