Um.  Volky?  Sony neutered the PS3 backwards compatibility.  They took out the 'emotion engine' which is a hardware chip most PS2 games need to run.  Software emulation on the PS3, last I checked, sucks.  So badly they nolonger advertise it as a feature.
Software emulation on the 360 is fine and more games were steadily added after launch.

I am curious, again, what's the big deal about harddrive space on a console?  Yes, the PS3 has moar GB's than the 360...  so what?

Wifi support is def. an important thing, surprised me that Microsoft omitted it from the 360 for so long then had the gall to ask $100 for an adapter.  Thankfully it is internal now with the new models.
I'm not going to really touch Bluray...  imo, movie wise its going to get bypassed by online streaming before it takes over DVD.  And the 360 had Netflix first

Number wise, the Xbox 360 does have more games.  They also had a years head start, so its not really surprising.

"645 games on this list."  PS3 wikipedia
Also, apparently the wikipedia editors care more about the 360 =P  The PS3 page is rather lacking in detail.
Quality over quantity though, the sheer number doesnt really matter.
Sales wise, the 360 games have done better.  Console wise, they're both around 50 million.

Worldwide Software Totals

Console Yearly (change) Total (tie ratio)
Wii 17,672,552(-90%) 631,996,632(7.44)
X360 13,950,061(-90%) 472,403,051(9.15)
PS3 13,541,424(-89%) 344,399,866(7.22)

Noone is touching the Wii though, lol.  Software and hardware wise, the system is dominating.  Don't even look at the Nintendo DS numbers.

Also, as far as the UI...  Eh.  This has been studied, people get used to doing things one way and it becomes 'intuitive.'  Throw a computer newbie on a mac or windows and they'll figure it out.  Swap them to the other OS and both will complain because nothing works 'right.'

They took out the chip after a few months, but the emulation runs fine, even on the older models. I have one of them, and all my PS2 games run just fine on it. I've actually encountered more glitches with PS3 games than PS2 games. The reason they don't advertise it anymore is not because the emulation sucks, it's because their base model doesn't have any backwards compatibility anymore. The upper-tier models still have it though.

It makes it useful as more than just a game console. For example, Netflix is now offered on the PS3, so you can download movies onto your PS3 from Netflix. You can also download full games from the PS3 or Xbox stores, without eating all your HD space.

Well that's a quantitative answer. Xbox does have more games, though since both have well over 600 titles, I guess its kind of a moot point.

They did have a years head start though, as you mentioned.

Nintendo tapped into the casual gamers market. Which was much larger than previously suspected. Thus the Wii and DS are crushing all before them. Nintendo once again rules the world of video games.
