How do we treat our passive friends?

What the heck Peace! I'm not freaking War Claw. I Attacked you like once during the first week, you sent me a message saying you were passive and offering any help if I needed it, I don't believe I've attacked since.

It's not lack of support - the vast majority of players support you by not attacking you. It's just that as a passive player the true measure of your skill is how you respond and adapt to people who DO attack you.

I leave passive players alone, and defend them when I'm playing. They actually are very benificial and the strat itself is very profitable if done properly.

I swear I have seen this exact same thread a dozen times. I don't know why I don't copy and paste my identical responses each time. Oh well.

Here is the problem, Peace:

Even if you don't attack anyone, if you intend to produce or grow in net, you're competing with the rest of the game.

Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable for other Warlords to attempt to weaken or destroy you, as they are vying for rank, too.

If you send away every single thing you produce, I can understand you being upset. But you're trying to get a decent rank at the end of the round, which makes your complaints hypocritical.

I will point this out. The mere fact that I am passive means that any success I have is equally beneficial to other players as well. My primary sources of net are from trade and muling. That means that if I am profiting, somebody else is too. If you are making the argument that War Claw is simply doing what any competitive warlord ought to do, you should consider the fact that if he wanted to, he could benefit much more by trading with me. All he got from me was 15k, he could have got that elsewhere without any trouble. Meanwhile I offer food, cash, troops, muling, and love, all at a good price! All my beneficiaries are currently above me in NW.

No, War Claws words prove that he's being spiteful, not simply making a tactical move. Why else would he have taken me down to 15k? That's well below the top 10 average.

A couple rounds ago Retto played in secret. He used his traditional HPR strat. Considering he was fundamental to the original design of this game, i would say that the HPR strat was intentional. War game or not, there is room for deviation. Everyone always asks for more variety in the strats. Well 50% of this game is socially constructed, if you want there to be other strats, you need to support them.
