Somehow i remember grade 2 (that alone is freaking me out) when Mr... umm... I wanna say Mr Balding but isn't that the guy from saved by the bell? .. anyway I still remember him saying, in a resigned i'm-out-of-arguments kind of way "you can put the comma there if you want, ollie"...

Languages can be changed, the first one makes more sense. It might not be the original method, but if it makes more sense why not change to it? The first one isn't going to confuse anybody, it just might offend some English major somewhere in the world. The second one IS going to confuse somebody, especially somebody who learned English in north America during the last 40 years.
