General Discussion / Xenocide

 Thank you, thank you.

After having no life for the last 4 years due to college activities, I am excited it has finally come to an end.  It was an exhausting, mind numbing, and frustrating experience; and I hope that, as many of you approach that time in your life, you will all enjoy it as much as I did.

Bugs / Troop Loss
March 03, 2004, 12:06:58 PM
Unless the game has changed, the troop losses have me confused.

I got a message saying:

You held your defense and your enemy was repelled, but you lost:
2 Rats
4 Weasels
14,730 Stoats
3,942 Skiffs
You managed to destroy:
119,753 Rats
16,977 Stoats
16,042 Skiffs

Since I lost all kinds of troops, I would typically assume this is a standard strike.  However, when I look at the news history, it says this was a Naval Assault.  This is also happening with all the different attack type;  Frontal Assault and Guerilla Strike.  Why are we losing all troop types for specialzed attacks?

EDIT:
OK, new addition.  even though the attack failed, it said I lost resorces.  Can someone explain this, it was a failed frontal attack.

You held your defense and your enemy was repelled, but you lost:
741 Rats
4 Weasels
40,235 Stoats
3,916 Skiffs
373,572 Food
3,014,475 Cash
You managed to destroy:
237,822 Rats
34,073 Stoats
16,769 Skiffs

Bugs / Minutes At Top
March 02, 2004, 12:54:43 AM
It seems that the Minutes At Top is only counting half the minutes spent in the top 10

I have been in the top 10 for 7.6 hours = 456 minutes, however it says Minutes At Top 225/5,760 (4%)

I was watching the counter change.  It adds 5 minutes to the counter every time you get new turns (every 10 minutes).

General Discussion / Online attacking

I don't see it as mean at all.

I think it is a strategy, like any other.  You are taking advantage of a weakness in your opponent.  It may have consequences, but it can also result in the attacker being much stronger.

It is a risk.  You might get smoked for it.  But this whole game is a risk.  You say you can ruin a persons economy; but is that wrong?  If they are your enemy (evident by you attacking them) and chances are, they will retaliate, why not make it harder for them.

I have spent much time at the top.  I am aware of how devistating being attacked while online is.  But it is all part of the game.  There is nothing wrong with it.  Strategically, it can be very useful and successful.

Yes indeed.  It is quite possible that someone who is attacked online will automatically retailate, possibly harder than if they had had a chance to kinda get used to the idea.  But there are times when it is advantageous to do it.  Strategically it can be a idea.

To every strategy, their are drawbacks.  To online attacking, there are drawbacks, like with any other strategy.  The person you attack may turn towards you, and you two could just go back and forth.... and at the end of your turns, you may be no better off, or even weaker than when you started.  That is all part of the game.  Knowing which strategy to use when.

Especially if someone is so much stronger than you that you cannot beat them when they are offline, there is a much better chance that you can while they are online.

I remember in Turbo.  I was in first place, and had just spent 350 turns attacking and gathering together a lot of land.  I was about to build a bunch of towers when an account named Pirate Of Land (or something like that) attacked me.  In about 50 turns, he took all the land I had gathered in 350 turns.  Yet, if he has waited 2 minutes, I would have had a pile more towers, and he would not have been able to break me.  I remember thinking to myself, "That was a fantastic move."  I don't know if he was really smart, or really lucky, but he timed it perfect.  If he had waited, he would have failed.  But he attacked at the one and only time he could to beat me, after I had gathered a lot of land together.  I was very impressed.

I have seen this topic come up over and over; some people claiming that online attacking is wrong.  I have pondered this for a while, and I cannot come to understand why that is.

If you want to succeed in this game, you need to attack up (attack people with more land).  When you attack them while they are online, there are many advantages.

1.  You can hit them while their towers are down.
2.  You might catch them with their health lower.
3.  Their armies might be low because of recent losses due to attacking.

Why anyone would want to wait until their target is at it's strongest defensive position before attacking doesn't sound strategically wise at all.

General Discussion / Wolf Bite Unmasked
November 09, 2003, 02:06:27 PM
 A new age has begun.

Wolf Bite: The man who sent aid to any who asked for it; the man who perfected just about every possible strategy in the game; the man who spearheaded the Recruits clan, where new players can go and learn how to play the game, rather than be farms for those more experienced, has left.

Not only has he left the forums, he has left the game.  The account "cat's meow", has been deleted.

He will be missed by those who considered him a friend.  His departure will cause a sigh of relief from those who he considered an enemy.  Either ally or adversary, his departure has effected everyone who plays the game.

Good luck Wolf Bite to where ever life leads you next.

Polling / Whos da best :2:

Thank you very much for those kind words Wolf Bite.

I have never sought fame or recognition.  I read the forums regularly, but only post on the forums when I have something that I need to say.

I have been here in the Redwall community since era 1.  Although few of you know me, I feel that I have come to know many of you.  I have been a witness to betrayal, and to justice... to both dishonorable playing, and honorable.  Although I received no votes, I am still honored to have even been considered for this poll.

For each new game, I have changed my name.  I don't want people to be afraid to attack me.  Very good players, like Peace, Wolf Bite, Josh, well, everyone on this list inspire a bit of terror that makes potential attackers think twice before launching an assault against these recognized names.  I do not want that for me.

I have used so many names, that even I forget many of them.  However, I am afraid I didn't become Emperor with Age.  I was still new to the game with him, and couldn't hold emperorship for any length of time.  Also, there was no Hurricane account, just a Hallucination.

General Discussion / Ad The Guide (#111)
September 24, 2003, 07:47:14 AM
Typically, on a topic like this, I would agree with Holby.

But I do have an issue to raise.  Although I have not been here quite as long as Ad, I do not ever recall him ever asking for special treatment.  I don't remember him ever saying "Because I am peaceful, please don't attack me."

His "not-attack" status was not his idea or request.  He simply played the way he played, and people chose not to attack him.  Even when other people did attack him during his "peaceful" phase (I am guilty of this) I do not believe he sent out messages to the offending warlord demanding they stop because he was peaceful.

Based on this, I believe that his elevation to immunity from attacks was from us; the players of RWL, not from himself.  If his protection was indeed from us, than he has not lied to anybody, taken advantage of anybody, and his playing is entirely within the rules and game.

Note:  If anyone can show me where Ad asked for special treatment in this game and to not be attacked, please show me and blow my entire post out of the water.

General Discussion / I have a great idea!
September 21, 2003, 08:06:41 AM
I created an account just too look around and noticed something strange.  There are NO clans in Server 2.  Is that forced on you by the game?  Or has everyone just chosen not to use clans?

If it is forced by the game, we might want to reconsider this, because we will not be allowed to do the whole point of what we are doing... playing as a unified RWL team.

General Discussion / Slayer

Do not be afraid to strike those who suddenly found themselves with a great deal of Networth.  By far the majority of that will be food.  All though some will be military, they are not as strong as they may appear.

However, do not underestimate them.  Every game must have a leader.  People cowered before Slayer.  Shall you cower before the new emperors as well?  As long as your afraid to strike out, you shall never be strong ( unless you have just been given a mountian of resorces... that doesn't count).

Look at Ad.  He was given much, now he has lost much.  Don't be afraid.

General Discussion / Slayer
September 12, 2003, 12:26:52 PM
As many people here have noticed, the top ranking of Regular RWL has changed drastically.  Slayer held the top ranks for a very long time.  They attempted to convince both the players and the admin that they had successfully won, and to reset the game.  Although many players agreed with that sentament, the admin held firm to their position that there will be no reset until the next expanded game is ready to be played.

So, in an attempt to re-energize this game, and the encourage of all its player to get back involved... many members of Slayer have sent sent away most of their resorces, and deleted their accounts.

Perhaps these former Slayer members will someday return to try and reclaim the emperorship; but for the moment there is great upheaval in Redwall.  A void has been created.

Now is the time to act.  For all those players that have set their empires onto autopilot, the time to move is now.  Do not miss this oppertunity.  The balance of power has shifted.  Make sure it shifts in your favor.

Slayer proved itself champions of this game.  Perhaps it is time for a new leader to rise.  Could that be you?

Good Luck to all.

Out of the ashes, a new world shall arise.

Polling / Time for a reset

It is true, Slayer isn't allowing anyone to get hardly any land.  There is no chance for anyone.  Reset the game.

Polling / Time for a reset
July 20, 2003, 10:50:40 PM
That is a stupid reason not to reset the game.  Slayer has won.  The clan has won.  The clan is not going to disband.  They have been together most of the game, and I believe will stay together as long as this game exists.

By stating that only if a Slayer player went Rogue and killed all his former clansmates would the game be reset is not only stupid, but it attempts to encourage members of slayer to betray each other.  I suppose it is possible, but Slayer members have been carefully selected baced on friendship and loyalty.

If you plan to wait until one slayer member betrays the rest before reseting the game, I fear it shall not be reset for a very long time.

Besides, Each slayer member is very strong.  If a member did chose to try and take over the game, the rest of slayer would crush him, like we have any other opposition.  I do not believe any slayer member would betray their clan, but if they did, they would not be able to combat the combined forces of the rest of their clan.

If you want the game to continue, fine.  But don't put the condition on it that a Slayer player must go Rogue and take over the game... because it will not happen.

Slayer will not disband, but the game is losing players because Slayer is too strong.  Many of those who remain have given up hope of reaching the top 10.  For the good of the game, and the good of the players, it should be reset.  Give everyone a hope to become emperor.  Right now, most have given up.
